The Power Clear 421Q Toro snow blower has a 21 inch clearing width that is more than wide enough to handle the load at most households. It is powered by a Tecmuseh 5.5 horsepower, 4-cycle engine that gives it plenty of oomph. There are two variations of the Toro 421Q. You can get it with an electric start, or with a recoil start. The choice is yours, and some people prefer the recoil start. However the ease of use of an electric start makes it very appealing to most people.

A great new feature on this Toro snow thrower series is the "Power Propel" Drive System. What this does is basically eliminate all of the hard work of pushing your snow blower for you. The Power Propel system has rotor paddles constantly touching the ground and propelling the machine forward.

That means that the machine basically glides by itself, and won't need much physical exertion on your end to get it going. As if that wasn't easy enough, the Toro 421Q only weighs about 80 pounds. The Power Clear 421Q Toro snow thrower also features the "Power Curve" System. The Power Curve is a way of designing the inner housing of the snow blower for maximum efficiency while clearing snow. It capitalizes on an inverted funnel shape and uses a curved rotor. The Toro 1028 LXE snowblower is in their Power Max family of two-stage snowblowers. The Toro Power Max snowblowers come with many unique features not just to the Toro family, but specifically to their model line.

The Toro Power Max line of snowblowers has four different models all together, with the 1028 being the second most heavy duty.

Toro has long been known for producing high quality snowblowers that do what they are supposed to and last for long period of time. From all signs, the Toro Power Max 1028 looks to be another quality model if you know you have to handle a good deal of snowfall each and every year.

Features & Specifications of the Toro 1028 LXE Snowblower

Thankfully Toro makes it really easy on all of us by naming their snowblower models using specific numbers, rather than random designations. The Toro 1028 is so named because it features a 10 HP engine, and has a 28 inch clearing width. The engine is a Tecumseh Snow King engine, has an easy electric start and can hold 1 gallon of fuel.

The Toro 1028 of course features the Toro Power Max Auger system, which is why it's a part of the Power Max line of snowblowers. The Power Max system is designed to help move snow through the auger quicker and more efficiently. It helps to prevent build up through an expanded chute base and a sort of upside down funnel shape.

Snowblowers can't handle all of the snow directly in their path right away when there's heavy build up. So the Toro 1028 swings any un-thrown snow back around and toward the auger immediately, keeping everything moving, and even adding more distance to the throwing capability of the machine. The Toro 1028 can throw snow up to 45 feet and with the "Quick Stick" Chute Control you can easily dictate where that snow ends up going. It allows you to change both chute direction and the angle of the chute deflection for maximum control and flexibility.

Other features include a heavy duty auger gear case construction which makes your life much easier by taking out all of the work associated with changing out broken shear pins. That's exciting itself on its own, but a really great feature on the Toro Power Max 1028 is the freewheel steering design.

This enables you to make pinpoint turns and maneuvers without any hassle and without any trouble. You can make a U-turn at the bottom of your driveway and go right back up, without missing any snow path in between your last line. The freewheel steering really makes snowblowing that much easier, and it also helps the job go by quicker.

The Toro 1028 LXE is a fairly large snowblower, weighing in at nearly 250 pounds. While the steering system makes the machine extremely maneuverable, not everyone wants a snowblower that large and that heavy. This is a snowblower designed for people who are comfortable operating heavy machinery in tough conditions, and know they get enough snow to make the investment worthwhile.

I grew up having to shovel my driveway when it snowed. Granted we weren't living in the Canadian Yukon, but we got enough large snow storms a year that the task got to be less than fun. Of course, when you're a kid, you'll clear 10 driveways if they paid you a few dollars to do it, but you don't get paid doing it at your own house!

But one of my friend's houses was a little bit more outside of town than ours was. They had a sixty or seventy foot long driveway, which had extra parking spots extending out of it. So there was a lot of room to clear, especially when there was a major snowstorm. Except, I never heard my friend complaining about having to shovel his driveway, even as I ranted about doing it at my house every time it snowed.

Well, after spending the night one weekend and waking up to a fresh blanket of around 6 inches, I got to see for myself firsthand why. His dad had a great walk behind Toro Snowblower. After all of these years, I forget the model, but I remember clear as day the bright red it shone with, even in the continuing snow. He started it right up, walked outside and got to work.

The snow was shooting off into the backyard, and it looked like so much fun. Not only that, but all of the neighbors seemed to gravitate to this guy. All of the sudden he was the most popular guy on the block, everybody wanted to get to borrow the snowblower for an hour to clear their own driveway.

We ended up actually running outside to help, so we could get our own turn pushing and steering the snowblower! It was like a switch was turned on inside of my head, and I vowed never to leave the task of clearing a driveway or a path to a shovel when I had control of it. And I never have, always keeping my trusty snowblower on hand, no matter where I've lived.

One day I'll surely pass on to my son the duty of clearing the driveway when it snows. It's a rite of passage, and I'll teach him the right way to do it, safely but effectively and with pride, using a snowblower. But not yet, I still enjoy it way too much!
