The Blizzard of '09 was one of the most intense in recent memory for people all over the country. Hit particularly hard were areas on the East Coast that aren't always used to getting extreme amounts of snow. In areas like Maryland where 2 inches usually close the schools, a full two feet of snow blanketed the ground in a matter of a day. That means that a lot of people had a lot of snow to clear, and the people that fared the best were the ones with some great snowblowers on hand to help them take care of all of the mess.
Of course, it's this kind of weather that tends to bring people together. It's a common shared experience, and people help each other out. So when somebody on your block has a great snowblower, you know he was willing to help out neighbors, friends and family with his tools.
Living where I do, these snowblowers really saved the day in the blizzard of 2009. So many people were so terrible unprepared for this kind of emergency situation. You can take a look at this picture of a nearby apartment complex. Things were crazy, and people couldn't leave their homes. However, with the use of a few snowblowers, walkways began to be cleared and there were entrances and exits for buildings and other areas.
People could begin to go about their lives, and they wouldn't have been able to, certainly not as quickly, without the use of snowblowers. Far too many people were unprepared, and it's time that you make sure you're prepared for the next big storm or emergency situation.
Even if you don't live in a classic blizzard area, as we saw at the end of 2009 it really doesn't matter anymore.
